The L is the brainchild of industry veterans Adam Hodak and Alex Lerman, who share the vision of bringing world-class cocktails to South Broadway, in a format that is tailored to the neighborhood’s eclectic culture. Combining the best elements of a cocktail destination with the lively atmosphere of a neighborhood bar, the L promises to set a new hospitality standard in Denver and beyond.
Originally hailing from Ohio, Adam Hodak moved to Denver in 2008 with a business degree from Wittenberg University and a few years of bartending under his belt. Drawn to the award-winning hospitality of restaurateur Frank Bonanno, Adam earned his stripes at the pinnacle of Denver’s dining culture, soon becoming the Beverage Director for Bonnano Concepts. He held that title for more than a decade, as the visionary behind nine unique Bonnano bar concepts, as well as the 16-vendor Denver Milk Market.
During that time, Adam also became a partner at Russell’s Smokehouse, Vesper Lounge and—most notably—Green Russell, which was named one of Conde Nast Traveler’s “Top 30 Bars in the World” and one of the “Top 10 Cocktail Bars in America” by Travel & Leisure. Proudly residing in Baker since 2010, Adam looks forward to celebrating the neighborhood’s eclectic history at The L, his first independent bar project.
A Denver native and CU Boulder grad, Alex Lerman’s early bartending career evolved alongside his freelance writing—as a food and drink contributor to Thrillist. In 2015, he was featured as one of Eater Denver’s “Best Bartenders” for his work at Green Russell, before moving to New York City to further hone his skills. Over the next four years, Alex worked at Saxole + Parole, Dram and the NoMad Hotel, eventually becoming the Head Bartender at the world-famous Nomad Bar.
Winning such awards as “#1 Bar in North America / #3 Bar in the World” (World’s 50 Best Bars) and “Best American High Volume Bar” (Tales of the Cocktail), Alex’s time in NYC literally put him at the cutting edge of the hospitality industry, connecting him with international leaders in the bartending craft. The opening of The L marks a Colorado homecoming for Alex, blending his world class experience with a local’s appreciation for Denver’s unique social culture.
